L-Series Bellhousing for Aisin TL70 6-Speed Swap
L-Series Bellhousing for Aisin TL70 6-Speed Swap
As of 08.22.24 we are FULLY stocked.
This is a special order part, please keep in mind when placing an order that there is a certain point of no-return due to the nature of modifying the transmission casing. While we will do our best to work with you, if you place an order for a kit and the bellhousings are on back-order, we can issue a full refund if the wait time gets excessive. If the bellhousings are available, we order all of the materials and parts the moment the order is placed, so if the order is cancelled before delivery, there will be re-stocking fees incurred for return shipping charges and returning special order parts. Once the transmission has been fully assembled, the order can no longer be cancelled.
We are proud to announce another kit that we have partnered with Datsunworks to bring to market. One of the major concerns with the CD00A 6-Speed swap for customers was cutting into their transmission tunnels for clearance and permanently modifying their Datsun for fitment.
This kit will NOT require any cutting or modifying the transmission tunnel for fitment, and will include a 100% bolt-in crossmember. Just like our CD00A bellhousing, this is a completely new cast bellhousing for use with any Aisin TL70 6-Speed from a Subaru BRZ or Toyota GT86/Scion FRS platform. Starting in 2018, they have a revised part # that is said to be stronger from the factory.
We would not recommend this application for anything over 375 WHP. There are people who have claimed to push well into the 425whp range with their Subaru BRZ, but we do not have any tangible test data reflecting this as accurate. There are also potential upgrade options for the market such as carbon fiber synchros, stronger gears, etc. which we will handle on a case by case basis.
This kit will include the following:
NEW Cast Aluminum Bellhousing for the L-Series engines for use with the TL70 6-speed
NEW Machined Front Bearing Retainer Cover
Billet Aluminum Shifter Relocation Base (You will need to order a shifter)
Pilot Bearing Spacer
Machined Clutch Release Bearing (This may change, we are currently attempting a work-around that will not require this part)
To be as forth-coming as possible, we want to give you as much information as possible, which includes some of the following disclosures of things we have noticed during beta testing of this kit
The TL70 input shaft is approximately .954” in diameter, where as the Nissan is .996”. This seems like a minor discrepancy, but in the interest of doing things right, we are requiring customers to swap to the Subaru clutch disc, as the Nissan disc fits a little too loose, and we are worried about the splines stripping
Swapping to the Subaru clutch disc presents some other minor fitment issues. The Subaru clutch disc is 230mm, so this cannot be used with the standard 225mm clutch. It also requires swapping to a 240mm flywheel, which the factory Nissan flywheel rubs the back of the hub on the Subaru clutch disc. Swapping to an RB26 flywheel gives additional clearance in this area. The final clearance issue was the flywheel bolt heads themselves, which swapping to ARP flywheel bolts solves the issue completely. You could theoretically have your 240mm flywheel machined with an additional 8mm recess below the surface area, but for the expense, it is more cost effective to just upgrade flywheels and have a brand new part.
No provision for mechanical speedometer, so the vehicle must be converted to GPS speedometer
Due to the nature of this modification, we cannot extend the standard Toyota/Subaru parts warranty to the transmission, as it will require cutting a portion of the factory casing away, essentially permanently modifying the component. These are 100% brand new transmissions from Subaru, and will not be opened up prior to delivery, unless a customer requests internal upgrades, or having the cases powdercoated.
We have found a Subaru part number for a shift boot insulator that is VERY close to the factory Datsun S30 pattern. You will need to drill a few small holes through your shifter hole opening and the capture plate to get it to bolt down and seal properly. This is the only modification to the body of the car required.
