Rodney's High Compression 2.8L EFI Swapped 73' 240z

Mr. Townsley first came to us in 2019 with several electrical issues from a previous shop, including wiring that almost caught the entire car on fire. His main focus at the time was to get the car safe and reliable, which we were happy to take care of. We slowly sorted through the wiring woes and got as much as we could corrected, and got it up and running again. This car has been in his family for quite some time, and has been an on-going restoration project, with lots of man hours poured into it from body work, to frame rail and floor pan repairs, and more. So to say the least, we all felt it was well worth the investment to keep it on the road.

At the time, he was still running the original 2.4L L24 with Dual SU side-draft carburetors. The carburetors worked, but needed to be rebuilt, as per usual, they were also very finicky during cold operation, as well as at wide open throttle. We decided at that point, electronic fuel injection was in his future.

We decided mid 2021 was a good starting point for putting together a game plan. His main focus areas were reliability, a minor power increase, and a touch of modernization. At the end of the day, Rodney wanted to get in the car, hit the key, and go, no matter what time of the day, no matter the weather, this car was going to be the have fun at any time kind of car. We decided to achieve that goal, converting to a Plug and Play Megasquirt system, coupled with a higher compression 2.8L L28 engine was going to be a good fit. A little bit more power, but nothing too crazy, something that felt modern over the Dual SU carbureted setup. We capped the build off with a FS5W71B 5-Speed conversion, a GlowShift Elite 10 Series Tachometer and Speedometer, a Honda wiper motor upgrade, and a Silvermine electric power steering kit to finish it off.
