Bryan's 92' 300zx Twin Turbo Commemoration Car


This car is a very special build, and we feel very honored to be a part of it. This 92’ 300zx Twin Turbo was originally a father/son project, which is the ultimate aspiration of any car guy, including Bryan and his son Kaleb. Unfortunately Kaleb is no longer with us, so the build path shifted to a commemoration car in his honor.

Since then, Bryan has not only setup a scholarship fund in honor of his son Kaleb, he’s also organized several car shows, and started an awareness campaign “Show Kindness for Kaleb” honoring how Kaleb always put others before himself, and leaving an ever lasting impression with not only his peers, but his family.

The vehicle came to us with excessive blow-by, oil burning, and only running on 4 cylinders. After initial inspection we found that 2 cylinders had 0 compression, and 1 cylinder had 30psi of compression. We elected to do a complete tear down and inspection at that point, and found 3 of 6 pistons with broken piston ring lands.

What we were able to gather is a compounding of several issues from the previous owner of the vehicle. A non-vented catch can setup allowing blow-by gasses to enter the air charge, which lowers the octane rating in the air/fuel mixture. Once that happens, the risk of detonation greatly increases. Furthermore, we found a cracked knock sensor with an open circuit, as well as rotten wiring going to said knock sensor. Once the detonation had an opportunity to show itself, the final safety measure from the ECU was not able to kick-back the ignition timing and save the engine, leading to permanent engine damage.

These issues were corrected upon final assembly of the engine, as well as upgrades for future proofing. Bryan elected to go with Wiseco forged pistons, Eagle forged connecting rods, King and ACL race bearings, and Cometic MLS head gaskets with ARP Head studs. From now on, this engine will be future proof for Bryan’s projected future horsepower goals.
